WORKSHOP CONCEPT
The workshop is organized within the context of the European project “Full Service Audiovisual Infrastructure for Metropolitan Access Networks” - VisionAIR, which is being funded by the European Commission (DG Information Society, 5th Framework Programme for Research and Development in Europe).
The topics to be discussed during the workshop include among others the European Commission policy in the field, the experience of cities that provide broadband services, the status of broadband in Greece and the context and outcomes of the VisionAIR project.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
- Exchange of views concerning the parties involved in the provision of broadband services, the respective
viable business models and possible roles of local authorities in those business models
- Exchange of practices and experiences among cities, which are actively involved in the provision of broadband services
- Awareness raising of bodies and institutes, which in some way influence broadband policies
- Encouragement of other local authorities in Greece as well as in the rest of Europe to proceed with the deployment of broadband networks
- Presentation of the VisionAIR project outcomes
